1. What is the Provisional Entry?
Students who have met the academic entry requirements but who require some English language preparation can apply for provisional entry.
Provisional entry with an IELTS score of 4.5
Students must do 30 weeks of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) prior to the Diploma.
Provisional entry with an IELTS score of 5.0
Students must do 20 weeks of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) prior to the Diploma.
Provisional entry with an IELTS score of 5.5
Students must do 10 weeks of English for Academic Purposes prior to the Diploma, with the option of doing an Academic Unit from the Taylors UniLink Diploma program during their study.
2. How many UniLink Subjects can I study concurrently with EAP?
• Starting at EAP 1 (IELTS 4.5): no academic unit allowed
• Starting at EAP 2 (IELTS 5.0): no academic unit allowed
• Starting at EAP 3 (IELTS 5.5): students can undertake one Academic Unit from the Taylors UniLink Diploma
3. Provisional Entry, I was accepted and did one academic unit concurrently with EAP, does it mean I will finish my course faster, i.e less than three trimesters?
No, unfortunately doing units from the Taylors UniLink Diploma concurrently with EAP will not reduce the time it will take for you to complete the Diploma. You will still be required to study three trimesters. Students study four units in each trimester. If you do units concurrently with EAP you will, at some point, be required to study less than the usual four units per trimester and that is the only difference.
4. Can I study EAP Sydney and UniLink in Melbourne?
Absolutely! English for Academic Purposes – EAP is the same in all Embassy Centres globally.

5. After I finish Taylors UniLink, do I need to sit IELTS before going to the university?
As far as immigration is concerned, the answer is 'No', we quote from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website:
"You must provide evidence that you have:
studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States
or
within two years of your application date have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course
a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education
or
a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework."
However, Universities can set IELTS entry requirements for particular courses if they choose. None of the universities with which we have an agreement have specified additional IELTS study.
6. If UniLink is made up of three trimesters of 13 weeks, why does it take 50 weeks to complete?
|
Orientation, 1 week |
Teaching time, 36 weeks |
|
Study periods, 3 weeks |
Exam periods, 3 weeks |
|
Holiday, 7 weeks |
Total, 50 weeks |
7. There is a big gap between EAP and UniLink, what can be done about it?
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will usually allow gaps of 3-4 weeks between courses. It is up to DIAC to approve bigger gaps, sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not. Students can fill in the gaps (or some of it) with General English – GE. Alternatively, students can return home for a short holiday before starting the next course.
8. When do students in the October Diploma intake commence university?
Students who commence the Diploma in October and finish in the following September can commence at universities with a trimester intake, in October/November of that year. If they wish to join a university with a semester intake they will commence in February or June of the following year.
9. Are packaged offers available with any universities?
We provide packaged offers with Charles Sturt University, Griffith University and Swinburne University of Technology. This means that students have the flexibility of choice on completion of the Diploma – they can continue their studies at the university that suits them best.

10. What is the entry score required from the Diploma to enter university?
The minimum score in a subject to gain credit differs from university to university. For most it is a pass, that is 50%. Some universities may require a higher grade average for unspecified credits in their Bachelor of Information Technology degree. Disclaimers on the brochure will serve as a guide and students should check the University website for final details.

12. How is the Taylors UniLink Diploma different to a VET Diploma?
Taylors UniLink is a Higher Education Diploma, not a Vocational Education and Training Diploma. Subjects in the higher education diploma are based on first and second year university curricula which most students find a better preparation for university than a VET curriculum.
13. What is the difference between the Taylors UniLink Diploma and first year university?
The curriculum is equivalent to that of a university, with the additional benefit of the academic literacy and academic numeracy units which provide a strong ground for other subjects. The small class sizes are a distinct advantage for students in their first year in tertiary education. Students receive a high level of guidance and nurturing to help them adapt to the new academic environment. Students can also save a considerable amount on tuition fees when compared to first year university fees.
14. If English is required prior to the Diploma, what course do students take?
Students can take the English for Academic Purposes to satisfy the English entry requirements for the Diploma. The course is delivered at the Embassy Campus. If students satisfactorily complete EAP 3, they do not need an IELTS test to progress to the Taylors UniLink Diploma.

15. Is there an age restriction for entry to the Diploma (i.e. 18 and over)?
There is no age restriction into the Diploma but universities may have age restrictions.
16. If the university states "up to" 8/12 subjects of credit, how many will students actually receive, and on what basis is this negotiated?
The credit received depends on the degree and major which the student wishes to study and the choice of elective in the final trimester of the Diploma. Our tertiary advisors and course coordinators are available to give advice about the credit that will be received. The advantage of the Taylors UniLink Diploma is that all credit arrangements have already been confirmed with the universities, so that students do not have to approach each university individually to negotiate their credit.
17. If a student fails a subject, can they re-take it?
Where a student marginally fails a unit of study (i.e. has achieved a score of 46-49%) the student will be offered the option of completing additional assessable work or an additional examination which, if completed at the prescribed standard, will result in the student passing the unit. If the final subject result is a fail then students will be required to sit the entire subject again.

18. If the subjects are academically focussed, how will students be prepared for the workforce afterwards?
Students who go on to study a university degree are prepared for the workforce through the subjects and programs taken at the university. Students going into workforce straight after the Diploma should study the elective 'Industry Research and Readiness'. This unit along with the diploma subjects will help them be ready for work.
